Adult Support Unit

Adult Support Unit is a residential care home in Canterbury, Kent (CT2 8ED). It holds a CQC rating of Good.

About Adult Support Unit

We are a residential care home in Canterbury supporting adults including older people and younger adults, people with a learning disability or autism, people with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss. We also offer respite stays, which can give a family carer a genuine break. This is somebody's home before it is anything else, and we try hard to run it that way. People have their own rooms, their own routines and a real say in how their days go. Support here is about making ordinary things possible rather than doing them for people. Cooking a meal you actually want. Doing your own shopping. Managing money and appointments. Getting to a club, a course or a job. Keeping in touch with family and friends. We pay attention to that distinction, because independence is quietly worn away by help that arrives too quickly. Communication matters a great deal to us. Not everybody here uses many words, and where somebody has sight or hearing loss as well we take particular care over how we communicate, giving the time needed to understand properly rather than assuming. Plans are written with the person and changed when they stop fitting. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining our practice around choice and privacy, where any home can drift without noticing. If you are considering a place or a respite stay with us, please come and visit and meet the people who live here.
