About Adisham House

Adisham House is a residential care home in Canterbury, Kent. The people living here include people living with dementia, people with a learning disability or autism, people with a physical disability, people with sight or hearing loss, people managing mental health conditions and younger adults. Respite stays are available. Because the people living here need quite different things from us, support is planned with each person rather than run to one pattern. People have their own rooms, their own belongings and their own routines, and they have a real say in how their days go. We are careful about the difference between helping somebody and doing things for them, because independence is easily worn away by help that arrives in too much of a hurry. Communication is something we work at. Not everybody here uses many words, and understanding a person properly takes time, attention and a willingness to be corrected. For those living with dementia, steadiness does the most good. Familiar staff, routines that change only for a reason and patience when words are difficult. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining the things that quietly slip in any home, particularly privacy and choice. If you are considering a place or a respite stay with us, you are welcome to come and visit, meet the people who live here and ask us whatever you need to know.
