About L'Arche Faith House
L'Arche Kent Faith House is a residential care home in Canterbury, and we support adults with learning disabilities, autistic people, younger adults and older people who need help with daily living. Respite stays are available as well. We are a community rather than simply a service, and that shapes daily life here. People share meals, share decisions about how the house runs, and are known properly by the people they live alongside. Our staff are part of that household, and we keep the team consistent, because being well known by those who support you affects every hour of the day. Support covers personal care, medication, meals, money and the practical business of running a home, and wherever we can we do things alongside people rather than for them. A task done slowly by the person themselves is a better outcome than the same task done quickly by us. For autistic people we pay close attention to predictability and to the sensory side of things: changes explained before they happen, routines that hold, and noise and light taken seriously. We should be open about our position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have worked through the findings with our team, and those areas are where our effort is concentrated at present. We would rather tell you that ourselves and be asked about it. Families and professionals are welcome to visit and question us closely.
