About Us

Westminster House is a care home in Newport, on the Isle of Wight. We provide residential care for older people and for adults living with a learning disability or autism, and we keep places available for respite stays.

Living here is meant to feel like living in a house rather than being placed somewhere. People choose when they get up, what they want to do with the morning and whether they would rather be in company or have a quiet afternoon in their own room. Our staff know the people they support well, and that familiarity does more for a person's confidence than any written procedure.

Being on the Island matters to us. Many of the people who live here have family nearby, and we would far rather relatives dropped in than booked a visit. Those who came from further afield usually arrive with a life story we take time to learn, and what we learn shapes how we support them.

Respite is something we take as seriously as a permanent stay. A family carer needs a real break, and the person coming to us needs to feel welcome rather than parked for a fortnight.

The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us good overall. We are glad of that, although the judgement that counts for more comes from the people living here and the families who visit them. If you are looking at care on the Island, you are very welcome to come and look round.
