About Appletree Grange
Appletree Grange is a residential care home in Chester le Street. We are home to older people who need support with daily life, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people recovering from illness or giving a family carer a break. Most of the people who live here come from this part of the north east, and that shared background does real work. Familiar names, familiar places and the same dry humour give people something to hold on to, and a proper conversation over a cup of tea is worth more than most organised activity. Residents run their own days. When to get up and go to bed, what to eat, whether to sit with others or keep to their own room with their own things around them. Rooms hold people's own furniture and photographs, and nobody comes in without knocking. For residents living with dementia, consistency is what helps most, so we keep staffing settled, learn each person's history properly and use it to make sense of what they are telling us. When somebody is distressed we look for the reason rather than trying to close it down. Health needs are managed alongside local GPs and community nurses, and families hear from us early rather than late. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and visit us.
