About Us
Lydfords Care Home is a residential care home in Lewes, and most of the people who live with us have come from East Sussex and the villages round about. We support older people, including many living with dementia, and we also support younger adults whose needs mean that living alone is no longer safe or comfortable.
What we try to offer is continuity. People who move into a care home have usually just lost a great deal, whether that is their own front door, their independence or a partner. The least we can do is make sure that the small things carry on. If someone has taken two sugars in their tea for sixty years, that is worth knowing. If a person was always an early riser, we will not be waking them at eight because it suits a rota.
For those living with dementia, we work to keep the house calm and familiar, with the same faces as far as we can manage, and we take the time to understand what someone is telling us even when the words have become difficult. Families often know things we could never guess, and we rely on them.
We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission. In the meantime, the honest invitation is to come and look at us, speak to the people who live here and judge us on what you see.

More about the care at Lydfords Care Home
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Somebody who has taken two sugars in their tea for sixty years is worth knowing about, this home says, and that is roughly its definition of continuity. Lydfords Care Home in Lewes is registered for older person care and for up to 36 people. It points out that people who move into a care home have usually just lost a great deal, whether their own front door, their independence or a partner, so the small things carrying on matters. An early riser will not be woken at eight because it suits a rota. Ask how flexible mornings and bedtimes really are, how many staff are on overnight, and how the home gathers that sort of detail.
Dementia
Taking the time to understand what somebody is telling you even when the words have become difficult is what this home says it does in dementia care. It keeps the house calm and familiar with the same faces as far as it can manage, and relies on families for the things staff could never guess. Lydfords is registered for dementia care in Lewes and for up to 36 residents, with no overall rating published. East Sussex is the council to approach if an assessment or funding is involved. Ask how staff respond to distress, whether residents can walk about safely indoors, and how the home manages as dementia advances.
Younger Adults
Younger adults whose needs make living alone unsafe are part of what this Lewes home supports, alongside older residents. In a house of 36 where most people will be considerably older, company nearer your own age and a say in the week are the things to ask about. Ask who of a similar age lives there now.
Residential Care
East Sussex usually pays about £800 to £950 a week while typical South East fees run from £1100 to £1450, so the difference needs addressing early. Residential care at Lydfords means help with everyday living rather than nursing, so meals, personal care, medication and company, with GPs and district nurses attending for health needs. Registration under Scarborough Hall dates from 21 April 2026 and the home says it has not yet been given an overall rating. Its own invitation is to come and look rather than take anything on trust. Ask what would happen if nursing needs developed, and whether a short stay is possible first.
