About Us
Upperton Gardens is a residential care home in Eastbourne supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, adults with a physical disability, and people with a visual or hearing impairment. We offer permanent places and respite stays.
We run the house as a home rather than a unit. The people living here decide the ordinary things: what is for tea, what is on the television, what time the day starts, whether today is one for going out or staying put. Staff are here to make those choices possible, not to make them on anybody's behalf.
Where somebody wants to take on more for themselves, we support it at their pace. That might be cooking, shopping, managing money, travelling independently or keeping up a job, a course or a volunteering placement. Where a person mainly needs life to be settled and predictable, that is an equally good aim as far as we are concerned.
Communication gets close attention here, because understanding a person properly is the difference between them being in charge of their own life and having it arranged around them. Where sight or hearing is restricted, small practical adjustments make a large difference and we treat those as part of the job.
Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
