About Westerleigh

Westerleigh is a residential care home in Stanley, County Durham. We support a wide range of adults, which is something we think is worth saying plainly, because it means the people living here are not all at the same stage of life or facing the same things. We care for older people, including many living with dementia, and we also support younger adults, people with a physical disability, adults with a learning disability or who are autistic, and people managing mental health conditions. What holds that together is a way of working rather than a single specialism. We get to know how each person likes their day to run, what they can still do for themselves and where they genuinely want a hand, and we build the support around that instead of around a rota. For residents living with dementia, familiarity does a great deal of the work, so we keep staffing consistent and we keep the daily rhythm steady. Respite stays are part of what we offer, whether a family carer needs a planned break or someone needs a period of recovery and company after an illness. We treat a short stay as seriously as a permanent one. Visitors are welcome, and we would always rather a relative rang us with a question than sat at home worrying about it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, and keeping it that way depends on listening to the people who live here.
