About Us
We at Woodwell House are proud to offer warm, person centred residential care in the heart of Bristol, providing a genuine home for adults living with learning disabilities and autism. Our welcoming residential care home is a place where individuality is celebrated and every resident is supported to live life on their own terms.
Nestled within the vibrant community of Bristol in the South West, our setting has been thoughtfully created to feel calm, familiar, and reassuringly domestic. From comfortable communal spaces where residents can gather, share meals, and enjoy one another's company, to quieter areas designed for rest and reflection, every corner of Woodwell House has been shaped around the people who live here. The wider Bristol area offers wonderful opportunities for community engagement, and we actively encourage residents to feel connected to the neighbourhood around them.
Our specialisms in residential care for adults with learning disabilities and autism sit at the heart of everything we do. We understand that no two people are the same, and our approach is built around getting to know each resident as an individual, their preferences, their routines, their aspirations, and the small things that bring joy to their day. Whether someone thrives on structure and predictability or blossoms with gentle encouragement to try new experiences, our team works patiently and respectfully to support them. Communication is tailored to suit each person, and we take great care to ensure that residents feel truly heard.
We also offer respite care, which can be a lifeline for families and regular carers who need a short break, whether planned or arranged at shorter notice. Respite stays at Woodwell House give guests the chance to enjoy a change of scene, meet new friends, and take part in daily life with us, whilst giving loved ones peace of mind that their family member is in safe, capable, and compassionate hands. Many families tell us how reassuring it is to know that respite here mirrors the quality and consistency of our longer term care.
Families rightly want confidence in the quality of care their loved one receives, and we are pleased that our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated Woodwell House as Good across every domain assessed. Being recognised as Good in Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led reflects the values our team lives by each day. It means residents are protected from harm, supported by staff with the right skills, treated with kindness and dignity, offered care that responds to their changing needs, and cared for within a home that is thoughtfully and openly managed. Whilst ratings are only one part of the picture, they offer a meaningful, independent reassurance for families making an important decision.
Choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that responsibility. If you are exploring options for a loved one with a learning disability or autism, or considering respite care in the Bristol area, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please do get in touch to arrange a visit, ask questions, or simply have a conversation about what your family needs. At Woodwell House, our door is always open, and we look forward to welcoming you.
