About 218 Kingsway
218 Kingsway is a small residential care home in Bristol, supporting adults living with a mental health condition. We also offer respite care for planned short stays. This is somewhere people live rather than somewhere they are treated. Residents have their own room and their own belongings, decide how they want to spend the day, and are supported to take on more for themselves as and when they feel ready. Recovery does not run to a timetable, and we would far rather move at somebody's pace than push them along to suit ours. Being small is a real advantage. It means the people who live here are known properly by a settled team, the house stays calm, and support can be shaped around individuals rather than around a rota. It also means somebody notices when a resident is not quite themselves, which does more good than any amount of paperwork. What support looks like varies. For one person it is a settled routine, regular meals and a quiet house. For another it is help with medication and appointments, support with money and shopping, and encouragement to get back into study, work or seeing people again. We agree the plan with the resident, write it plainly and revisit it honestly rather than letting it run on unchanged. We work closely with community mental health teams, GPs and social workers, and we keep families involved as far as the resident wants them to be.
