About Us
We are Elizabeth House, a residential care home in Poole. We support older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays.
Residential care means helping with what has become hard work and leaving everything else in the hands of the person. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, getting about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth having. For health needs beyond our registration we work with district nurses and GPs rather than stretching to cover them, and we tell families plainly where that line falls.
Where dementia and a sensory impairment sit together, which is common, we check the simple explanation first. A hearing aid that has stopped working accounts for a great deal that would otherwise be recorded as confusion, and a room somebody cannot make sense of will unsettle anyone. We would rather get the environment and the communication right before drawing conclusions about the person.
For residents with a physical disability the practical details matter most: enough time that nothing is rushed, equipment set up properly, and asking the person how they prefer things done rather than assuming.
Respite guests are assessed and welcomed exactly as permanent residents are, whether they are recovering from illness or giving a family carer a break.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
