About Us
Coral House in Poole is a residential home supporting adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with mental health needs and people with physical disabilities, and we also care for people living with dementia. Most of the people here are younger adults, and we offer respite stays.
Because people tend to live here for years, we run the house as their household rather than as a setting they have been placed in. The people who live here decide how their rooms look, have a real say in what is bought and cooked, and shape the week around what they want to do rather than around our convenience.
Support with personal care, mobility, medication, health appointments and money is given exactly as each person has agreed and recorded in enough detail that a colleague new to a shift can get a morning right. For anybody who finds change unsettling, that consistency is the foundation of everything else.
Communication takes real effort and deserves it. Some people here use speech, others use signs, symbols, objects or behaviour we have to learn to read, and we treat that learning as part of the job. We check what we think we have understood rather than assuming it.
We want people to have a life beyond the front door, with work, college, clubs, friends and family. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.

Can Mum or Dad stay here if their dementia gets worse?

Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.
Can she bring her cat or dog?
Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.
Can a couple stay together?
Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.
Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?
Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.
Do they take younger adults as well as older people?
Yes. Coral House supports younger adults as well as older people. Source: CQC register
Can I visit before deciding, and are there visiting hours?
