About Us
Our home on Southwood Avenue in Bournemouth, part of Cambian, is a small residential care home supporting autistic adults and adults with learning disabilities, including younger adults working towards a more independent life. Respite stays are available as well.
Being small is deliberate. Autistic people are often poorly served by large and busy settings, and a house where everybody is properly known, where the staff team stays the same and where the shape of the week holds is worth far more than anything a bigger place can offer. Changes are explained before they happen, routines are kept, and we take noise, light and sensory comfort seriously rather than treating them as preferences.
Support covers personal care, medication, meals, money and the practical business of running a home, and wherever we can we do things alongside people rather than for them. A task done slowly by the person themselves is a better outcome than the same task done quickly by us.
We are equally interested in what happens beyond the house. College, work or voluntary work, hobbies, friendships and family visits all matter, and helping people keep hold of them is part of the job rather than an extra.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families, social workers and anyone considering the house for somebody they support are welcome to visit and ask us anything at all.
