About Us
Pear Tree House is a residential care home in Bournemouth supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, including younger adults, and we offer respite stays.
This is a house people live in rather than a placement they occupy. Everyone has their own room and their own belongings, and everyone has a say in how the household runs, from meals and shopping to how the week is planned. Staff support people to do things rather than doing things for them, which takes longer and is exactly the point.
Communication is where we start with everyone. Some of the people here use speech, some use signs, symbols or objects, and some show us what they need through behaviour that takes patience and attention to read properly. We put that time in and we keep at it, because how a person communicates is not fixed.
Routine matters a great deal here, and so does notice. Changes are planned and talked through well in advance rather than announced on the day. We also think carefully about sensory things such as noise, light and how busy a space is.
Respite guests are part of the household while they are with us.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good.
If you would like to visit, please contact us and we will arrange it.
