About Mount Tryon
Mount Tryon is a nursing home in Torquay, with qualified nurses on duty day and night alongside our care team. We care for older people and younger adults, including many people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are part of what we do. People usually come to us when health needs have grown beyond what support at home or a residential home can meet. Nursing here means consistent attention to the things that keep a person comfortable and well: medicines, mobility, nutrition and hydration, skin, continence and pain, reviewed properly and talked through with the person and their family rather than handled quietly in the background. We involve GPs, district nurses and specialists early rather than late. Around that, ordinary life carries on. People rise when they wake, sit where they choose, keep their own furniture and photographs about them, and eat food that suits their taste as well as any clinical need. Where there is a physical disability we think hard about equipment, layout and timing, and help at the point of need rather than taking over. With dementia we rely on knowing somebody well, so we gather a person's history with their family and keep adding to it. When somebody is nearing the end of life we aim to be honest, present and unhurried. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
