About Us
Avonfield Neurological Centre is a nursing home in Wellingborough in North Northamptonshire. We care for older people and younger adults who need nursing support, including people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available too.
Much of our work involves people whose needs follow from a neurological condition, and that shapes how we plan care. Abilities can change from one day to the next, or across a single day, so a plan that describes somebody at their best is not much use. We record what a good day looks like and what a difficult one looks like, and we work to both, rather than treating the worse days as an interruption to the real routine.
Having qualified nurses on site around the clock means people whose health is genuinely complicated can stay with us as things change. Wounds, pain, continence, nutrition, medication and safe movement are all managed properly here.
We also guard against clinical care quietly turning a person into a schedule. People choose when they get up, what they wear, what is on the plate and how the afternoon goes. We knock, we explain what we are about to do, and we wait for an answer. Where communication is affected we take the time to find a way that works and we write it down so everybody uses it.
At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
