About Us
There is a particular kind of relief that families describe when someone with complex health needs finally settles somewhere steady. Clarendon Hall Care Home is a nursing home in Grimsby, and providing that steadiness for people across North East Lincolnshire is the bulk of our work. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with a physical disability.
Because we are registered for nursing care and have qualified nurses on the premises at all hours, health needs that would otherwise mean repeated hospital admissions can be managed here. Medication, wound care, nutrition, pain and the early signs of illness all get proper attention from people who know the person as well as the condition.
Alongside the clinical work we try to keep hold of the ordinary. Privacy when personal care is happening. Food worth eating, with help to eat it where that is needed. Visitors welcome at inconvenient hours. For residents with a physical disability, equipment that works and staff who know how that individual wants to be helped to move, so that nobody is left in a room for want of assistance.
With dementia we aim for familiarity and calm rather than correction, and we ask families early for the history that helps us reach somebody.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather be judged on a Tuesday afternoon than on a certificate.

More about the care at Clarendon Hall Care Home
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Relief is the word families use when somebody with complex health needs finally settles somewhere steady. Clarendon Hall Care Home in Grimsby is registered for older person care, so medication, wound care, nutrition, pain and the early signs of illness get proper attention from people who know the person as well as the condition. Inspectors rated the home good when they visited in January 2020. Ask whether privacy is protected while personal care happens and whether visitors are welcome at inconvenient hours. Ask how many nurses and carers work overnight and how quickly a call bell is answered. Fees across Yorkshire and Humberside usually run £1000 to £1300 a week, with the council paying about £800 to £980.
Dementia
Aiming for familiarity and calm rather than explanation is the whole of a sound dementia approach. Consistent faces, a steady rhythm and a building that can be walked without being blocked do more than any programme. Clarendon Hall Care Home is registered for dementia care as well as nursing, which counts when memory loss sits with physical illness. Ask how distress is answered and what happens when a resident tries to leave. Ask how pain is recognised in somebody who cannot describe it. Ask whether the home can support a person to the end of life rather than moving them on.
Physical Disability
Equipment that works, plus staff who know how that individual wants to be helped to move, is what stops anybody being left in a room for want of assistance. Clarendon Hall Care Home is registered for physical disability. Ask what is available, whether a room takes a ceiling track and profiling bed, and who reviews moving and handling when mobility changes.
Younger Adults
Complex health in your forties still leaves four decades of tastes that no older person's timetable will match. Clarendon Hall Care Home is registered for younger adults, so ask what a week holds for somebody of working age. Ask about peers, visiting arrangements, internet access and how much a room can be personalised.
Nursing Care
Repeated hospital admissions are what nursing registration is designed to prevent, by putting qualified nurses on the premises at all hours. Clarendon Hall Care Home holds that registration, so medication, wound care, nutrition and pain management are handled on site rather than arranged around visits. Somebody whose health is settled and who chiefly needs help with washing, dressing and meals belongs in residential care at a lower fee. Where nursing is required, NHS Funded Nursing Care pays roughly £235 a week towards the nursing element straight to the home. Ask whether it has been claimed and where it appears on the account. The January 2020 inspection returned a rating of good, worth reading beside fees of £1000 to £1300 a week and a council rate of £800 to £980.
