About Osbern Manor Care Home

We are Osbern Manor, a nursing home in Gillingham caring for adults whose needs call for qualified nurses as well as patient everyday support. Our nurses work here through the night as well as the day, so we can accept people with unpredictable health, support those discharged from hospital who are not yet ready to manage at home, and continue caring for residents whose needs increase over time. Our residents include older people, adults living with dementia and people with physical disabilities, including younger adults. Each person's care is planned with them and with those who know them best, and reviewed whenever something changes. We pay as much attention to how someone wants to spend the day as to the clinical side of things, because both decide whether a person is actually content. Meals come with proper choice and are adjusted for particular diets and swallowing needs. People choose their own hours for rising and sleeping. There is company and activity for those who want it, from music and quizzes to gardening and outings, and quiet for those who would rather be left in peace with the paper. Families across Medway know they can ring us at any hour and visit whenever they like. We will tell you if something is wrong before you have to ask. If you are looking into nursing care, come and see us, watch how the place runs and ask us the questions that are keeping you awake.

A confirmed nursing need attracts NHS Funded Nursing Care of roughly £235 a week, and the Gillingham home should be able to say how that is set against the fee.

Dementia Care at Osbern Manor Care Home

Exactly half the homes in Medway, 23 of 46, are rated Good or Outstanding, and Osbern Manor has no rating yet. Dementia care is therefore a matter of judging the place directly, watching whether routines are predictable, whether the building feels calm and secure, and how staff handle someone who is upset. The home's own text says care is planned with the person and those who know them best, and reviewed whenever something changes. It also claims as much attention is paid to how someone wants to spend the day as to the clinical side, which is the right balance in dementia. Ask what training staff receive, how distress and walking are managed, and how care is changed as dementia takes hold more firmly.

The home's own text says people choose their own hours for rising and sleeping, and that there is quiet for anyone who would rather be left in peace with the paper. Those are the claims to test on a visit to Gillingham, ideally at a busy time rather than a quiet one. Ask how many staff are awake overnight, how quickly a call bell is answered and who decides when a doctor is needed.

Younger Adults at Osbern Manor Care Home

Osbern Manor is the newest of the 46 homes in Medway, registered in October 2026. What matters more for an adult under 65 is that a nursing home of 72 places will be filled largely with much older people. The home lists music, quizzes, gardening and outings among what it offers, so ask which of that suits a younger resident and who else of that age is there.

Physical Disability at Osbern Manor Care Home

Wigmore Medical Centre is 0.4 miles from the home and a dentist 0.5 miles, which keeps appointments manageable. Physical disability in a care home setting raises questions about accessible bathing, doorway widths, hoisting and whether help is offered without taking over. Ask Osbern Manor which equipment comes with a room, how transfers are staffed, and whether an adapted bathroom can be seen during a visit.
