About Aarons Specialist Unit
We are a nursing unit near Loughborough, caring for people whose needs are complex enough to require qualified nurses alongside day to day support. We look after older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, people with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. Work of this kind cannot run on routine alone. It takes nurses on duty so that medication, pain, wounds, continence and difficulties with eating, drinking and moving are managed properly and without waiting, and it takes staff who know each person well enough to see a change before it becomes a crisis. Around all of that we try to protect ordinary life: choosing when to get up, what to wear, what to eat and who you want beside you. For people living with dementia, patience and familiarity settle somebody far better than any procedure. For younger adults the risk in a setting like this is that life narrows, and we work against that by keeping people connected to family, friends and whatever they want to do. We work closely with general practitioners, community teams, therapists and hospital staff and keep families properly informed. Respite stays are available as well as longer places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and see us and ask whatever you need to.
