About Us
Here at Oaklands Nursing and Residential Home in Burnley, Lancashire, we provide nursing and residential care for older people, those living with dementia, and younger adults who need a greater level of support. We also offer respite care for those who need a short term stay, whether that is to recover after a hospital admission or to give family carers a much needed break.
We know that choosing a care home is one of the most significant decisions a family can make, and we do not take that responsibility lightly. Our team works hard to make sure that every person who comes through our doors feels genuinely at home, not just cared for in a clinical sense, but seen, heard and valued as an individual.
Dementia care is a particular area of focus for us. We understand how important it is for people living with dementia to feel safe and familiar in their surroundings, and we work closely with residents and their families to understand personal histories, routines and preferences so that the care we provide reflects who someone really is.
We are open about the fact that our most recent CQC inspection resulted in a rating of requires improvement. We have taken that feedback seriously and have been working through the areas identified with a clear focus on making meaningful changes. We are committed to being honest with families about where we are and what we are doing to improve, because trust matters to us.
If you would like to find out more about what we offer, or if you are considering Oaklands for yourself or a loved one, please do get in touch. We would be happy to show you around and have a proper conversation about how we might be able to help.

More about the care at Oaklands Nursing and Residential Home
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Older residents in a nursing home usually arrive with health needs as well as care needs, which changes the shape of the day. Oaklands Nursing and Residential Home is registered for older person care. Help with washing, dressing, medication and meals sits alongside clinical observation and treatment. Ask how personal preferences are recorded and how much choice residents have over their routine. Night staffing deserves a direct question, including how many nurses and care staff are on duty. Weekly fees in the North West commonly run from 1000 to 1300 pounds, against a council rate of roughly 800 to 980.
Dementia
Where dementia and nursing needs sit together, families need to know which staff member is responsible for what. Dementia care is one of the registrations held by Oaklands Nursing and Residential Home. Ask how the home handles distress, particularly in the evening, and what is done when a resident wants to leave. Find out how doors and garden access are managed and how risk is weighed against freedom. Establish what dementia training both nurses and care staff receive. Ask too how families are kept involved as decisions become harder.
Younger Adults
A younger adult needing nursing care often finds the social side harder than the clinical side. Oaklands Nursing and Residential Home is registered to care for people under 65. Ask who else of a similar age lives there, what they do during the week, and how much freedom they have to go out.
Respite Care
Respite in a nursing home takes more organising, since medication and clinical details must transfer accurately. Oaklands Nursing and Residential Home is registered to provide short stays. Ask what the minimum length is, how much notice is required, and what medical information the home needs beforehand.
Nursing Care
A registered nurse on the premises at every hour of the day is what defines a nursing home, and the reason fees run higher. Oaklands Nursing and Residential Home in Burnley holds a nursing registration. Wounds, catheters, feeding tubes and unstable conditions are the usual reasons someone needs this level of support. The Care Quality Commission rated the home as requires improvement after an inspection in November 2022, so ask to read the report and hear what has changed. NHS Funded Nursing Care contributes about 235 pounds a week towards the nursing element for anyone assessed as eligible, reducing what a family pays. Ask how that contribution appears on the invoice and who arranges the assessment.
