About Us
Dove Court Care Home is a nursing home in Burnley, providing nursing care for older people, including people living with dementia, people with mental health needs and people who have a physical disability.
We will deal with the rating first, because you are entitled to it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We are not going to talk around that. The inspection identified things that were not good enough, we accept the findings rather than dispute them, and we are working through what was raised. Anybody considering the home for themselves or a relative should ask us directly what was found and what has changed since, and we will give a straight account rather than a reassuring one.
The work itself continues as it must. Qualified nurses are on site at all hours, which is what allows people with complex health needs to live here rather than being moved repeatedly between home and hospital. Medication, wound care, attention to nutrition, pain and skin, and catching deterioration early are the substance of our days.
For residents with a physical disability, the right equipment and staff who know their preferred way of transferring matter enormously. With dementia we work on familiar faces and a calm pace. For people with mental health needs we work alongside the teams already involved.
Come and see the home at a busy time of day and judge it as it is now.

More about the care at Dove Court Care Home
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Dove Court is registered for 120 people, nearly four times the local average of 34 and larger than 30 of the 31 homes nearby. A home that size changes everything about an older person's day, from how long a call bell takes to answer to how many different faces appear in a week. Day to day care covers washing, dressing, medication and meals, with the home describing attention to nutrition, pain and skin as the substance of its days. It also holds a food hygiene rating of 5 out of 5, shared by 18 of the 27 local homes that have one. Ask how many staff are awake overnight across 120 places and how a resident's own routine is recorded.
Dementia
The last published rating here is requires improvement, from an inspection on 6 October 2023, and only five of the 31 homes in the area have published a newer report since. Because the current registration dates from May 2026, that rating may relate to an earlier provider, though the home addresses it head on, saying it accepts the findings and invites families to ask what was found and what has changed. For dementia the things to look for are steady routines, a layout that feels calm and secure, and staff who are not hurrying. In a building of 120 places consistency of staffing is the harder part. Ask what the inspection raised about dementia and what training staff now have.
Mental Health
Sixty eight per cent of homes in this part of Lancashire are rated Good or Outstanding, against 74 per cent countywide. Dove Court is registered for mental health alongside nursing, where what usually helps is routine, stability and being treated with dignity. Ask who on the staff has mental health experience, how a crisis is handled at night, and how the home works with community mental health teams.
Physical Disability
A dentist sits under 0.1 miles from Dove Court, with a GP practice and a pharmacy each half a mile off. For a physical disability the home points to the right equipment and staff who know a resident's preferred way of transferring, which is the correct emphasis. Ask what equipment comes with a bedroom, how transfers are staffed, and whether an accessible bathroom can be seen during a visit.
Nursing Care
Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital, 10.6 miles away, is the nearest 24 hour A&E, which is a fair distance from Burnley. Qualified nurses are on site at all hours according to the home, and it argues that this is what allows people with complex health needs to live there rather than being moved repeatedly between home and hospital. Nursing care suits someone whose condition could not safely be managed by care staff alone. North West weekly fees commonly run from £1000 to £1300, while Lancashire council pays about £800 to £980. NHS Funded Nursing Care contributes roughly £235 a week where a nursing need is agreed, so ask how that is set against the fee.
