About Us
Vecta House is a nursing home in Newport on the Isle of Wight, with qualified nurses on duty at all times. We care for older people and younger adults, and our experience covers dementia and mental health needs. Respite stays are part of what we do.
People usually come to us when health needs have grown beyond what support at home or a residential home can meet, and our task is to meet those needs without letting them become the whole of somebody's life.
Nursing here means consistent attention to medicines, mobility, nutrition and hydration, skin, continence and pain, reviewed properly and talked through with the person and their family rather than handled quietly. We involve GPs, district nurses and community mental health teams early rather than late.
Around that, ordinary life carries on. People rise when they wake, sit where they choose, keep their own furniture and photographs about them, and eat food that suits their taste as well as any clinical need. With dementia we rely on knowing somebody well, so we gather a person's history with their family and keep adding to it. Where somebody is managing a mental health condition we aim to be steady and clear, because people tell us consistency helps more than reassurance.
When somebody is nearing the end of life we aim to be honest, present and unhurried. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
