About Us
Alston House Care Home is a nursing home in Eastleigh. We care for older people with nursing needs, including those living with dementia, and we offer respite and short stays.
Qualified nurses are on duty at all hours. That means complex health needs, medication, wound and continence care and care at the end of life are looked after here rather than through repeated journeys to hospital, and it means somebody notices early when a resident is becoming unwell rather than once it is obvious.
Nursing is the foundation rather than the point of the place. Our residents live here, and what makes a day a good one is usually ordinary. A proper breakfast, the paper, familiar music, the garden when the weather allows, and staff with time to sit down and talk about something other than care.
For residents living with dementia we keep the day steady and unhurried and we learn what reassures a particular person, since it is rarely the same for two of them. We ask at the outset how somebody has always liked their day to run and we write it down so that everybody working here knows it.
Where a resident is nearing the end of life we plan openly with them and their family, keep them comfortable and make room for relatives to stay as long as they want.
Visitors are welcome through the day. Please come and see the home for yourself and talk to the people living in it.
