About Us

Lambwood Heights is a nursing home in Chigwell, providing care for adults who need skilled nursing alongside help with the practical parts of the day. Having registered nurses on duty at every hour means that changes in someone's health are noticed and dealt with here, and that families do not have to worry about what happens overnight or at the weekend.

We care for older people, adults living with dementia and people with physical disabilities, including younger adults. Before anyone moves in we take time to understand their health, their history and how they wish to live, and we record all of it so that whoever is on shift knows the person and not just the needs.

Good nursing care should still feel like home. Meals are freshly prepared and we will make something else if nothing appeals. Residents decide when to get up, when to rest and whether they want company. We arrange music, gentle exercise, gardening, crafts and local outings, and we are equally content for someone to spend an afternoon quietly in their room.

Chigwell and the surrounding part of Essex is where many of our residents and their families come from, and relatives are welcome to visit whenever they wish, to join a meal or to take their family member out. If you are considering a nursing home, please arrange to come and see us, or simply turn up. We would rather be judged on an ordinary afternoon than on a prepared tour.

More about the care at Lambwood Heights Care Home

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

Lambwood Heights is bigger than 17 of the 24 homes around Chigwell, with 73 places against a local average of 57. For an older resident the daily substance is help with washing and dressing, medication on time, meals that appeal and somebody to talk to. This Essex home says it takes time before anyone moves in to understand their health, history and how they wish to live, and records all of it so that whoever is on shift knows the person and not just the needs. Ask to see how that record is kept and who updates it. Ask too how many staff are awake overnight and what is done for a resident who cannot sleep.

Dementia

Lambwood Heights has not been inspected, so the 58 per cent of local homes rated Good or Outstanding gives a benchmark it cannot yet meet or beat. Dementia care has to be read from the place itself, from whether routines repeat, whether the layout is calm and secure, and whether staff can steady someone who has become frightened. The home's own text promises that the person is known rather than just the needs, which is exactly the distinction dementia care turns on. Registration covers dementia alongside nursing, so the Chigwell home may suit someone whose dementia sits beside a clinical condition. Ask what dementia training staff have had, how distress and attempts to leave are handled, and how the plan is changed as dementia progresses.

Physical Disability

Three things sit 0.6 miles from Lambwood Heights, a GP practice, a dentist and a pharmacy. For a resident with a physical disability the building matters more than the neighbourhood, so look at bathroom access, turning space and how transfers are managed. Ask what equipment the home supplies, how many staff help with a hoist, and whether independence is actively supported rather than politely overridden.

Younger Adults

Chadwell Heath, the nearest station, is 3.5 miles from Lambwood Heights, a fair distance to travel independently. A nursing home of 73 places will be made up mostly of much older residents, which an adult under 65 has to weigh. The home mentions music, gentle exercise, gardening, crafts and local outings, so ask what of that fits a younger life and who else of that age is there.

Nursing Care

The A&E at King George Hospital in Ilford is 2.5 miles from Lambwood Heights, close enough to matter in an emergency. Nursing care in this setting means registered nurses on duty at every hour, which the home gives as the reason changes in health are noticed and dealt with on site. It is the right category for someone whose condition is too complicated for care staff alone, and the home adds that families then need not worry about overnight or weekend cover. Weekly fees across the East of England usually run from £1250 to £1600, with Essex council paying about £900 to £1100. NHS Funded Nursing Care contributes roughly £235 a week where the need is agreed, so ask how it is credited to the account.
