About Us

At Cherry Wood Grange Care Home in Chelmsford, Essex, we provide nursing care for people who need a little more support to live well. We welcome older adults, younger adults living with physical disabilities, and people with visual or hearing impairments, and we work hard to make sure every person who comes through our doors feels genuinely at home.

Dementia care is a significant part of what we do here. We understand how unsettling a move into care can feel for both the person and their family, and we take time to get to know each resident properly, learning about their life, their preferences, and the things that matter most to them. That understanding shapes the way we support people day to day.

We also offer respite care for those who need a short term stay, whether that is to recover after a period in hospital or to give a family carer some time to rest. We treat short stay residents with the same care and attention as those who live with us permanently.

Our most recent Care Quality Commission rating is good, and we are proud of that. It reflects the effort our team puts in every day to provide care that is thoughtful, safe, and responsive. We are always looking at how we can improve and we welcome honest feedback from residents and their families because that is how we grow.

If you are considering Cherry Wood Grange for yourself or someone you love, we would encourage you to come and visit us. Walking around and having a conversation with the team is the best way to get a real sense of who we are. We are always happy to answer questions and to help families feel confident they are making the right decision.

More about the care at Cherry Wood Grange Care Home

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

By the time a nursing home is being considered, the help needed has usually gone beyond what family and visiting carers can manage. Cherry Wood Grange Care Home is registered for older person care alongside nursing. Daily life still comes down to small matters, such as when breakfast happens and who helps with a wash. Ask whether residents choose their own waking times and how personal care is kept dignified. Ask how many staff and nurses are on duty overnight and how bells are answered. Essex County Council usually pays around £900 to £1100 a week, so ask how any gap to the fee is handled.

Dementia

Dementia care is judged on the difficult hours rather than the pleasant ones. Cherry Wood Grange Care Home holds a dementia registration alongside nursing, and its own text describes dementia as a significant part of what it does. Consistent staffing, a navigable layout and unhurried routines carry most of the weight. Ask what happens when a resident becomes frightened, agitated or set on leaving. Ask how exit doors are managed and how sedating medication is reviewed. Ask also whether a resident could remain as their dementia progresses.

Physical Disability

Transfers are where injuries happen, to residents and staff alike. Physical disability is named in the registration at Cherry Wood Grange Care Home. The right hoist, bed and cushion in the right room preserve both safety and dignity. Ask what equipment is held, who assesses for it, and how transfers are staffed at night.

Visual / Hearing Impairment

Being unable to hear a question is often mistaken for confusion. Visual and hearing impairment fall within what Cherry Wood Grange Care Home is registered to support. Lighting, contrast, signage and simple staff habits determine how limiting sensory loss becomes. Ask about loop systems, how often aids and glasses are checked, and who arranges audiology and optician appointments.

Younger Adults

A younger adult needing nursing care has social needs that a building full of much older residents rarely meets. Younger adults are included in the registration at Cherry Wood Grange Care Home, and its own text mentions younger adults with physical disabilities. Internet access, privacy and getting out of the building matter more at that age. Ask who else of a similar age lives there and what the week offers them.

Respite Care

Nursing respite is in shorter supply than residential short stays, so notice matters. Respite care is part of the registration at Cherry Wood Grange Care Home. Send medication in its original packaging, written routines and any dressing or feeding instructions. Ask the minimum stay, the weekly rate and how quickly an urgent booking could be met.

Nursing Care

Clinical needs that cannot wait for a district nurse are the reason nursing homes exist, covering wounds, catheters, oxygen and medication that needs adjusting. Cherry Wood Grange Care Home in Chelmsford is registered to provide nursing care, with qualified nurses on duty rather than on call. Where that input is genuinely needed, the NHS contributes about 235 pounds a week through Funded Nursing Care, reducing the family's bill. Nursing fees across the East commonly run from £1250 to £1600 a week. Inspectors rated the home good when they visited in November 2020. Ask whether Funded Nursing Care has been assessed and what the invoice looks like afterwards.
