About The Gables
The Gables is a nursing home in Bideford, Devon, providing nursing care for adults who have a learning disability or who are autistic, and for younger adults with complex health needs. Having registered nurses on the team alongside our care staff means we can support people whose health needs require regular clinical attention without them having to give up the settled, ordinary life that everybody deserves. Those two things are often treated as though they pull in opposite directions, and a good part of our work is showing that they do not have to. We start by getting to know each person properly. That means learning how somebody communicates, what a good day looks like for them, what unsettles them and what they enjoy, and then building the day around that rather than around our routines. Support plans are written with the person, and with families or advocates where that is wanted, and we change them as things change. Where somebody can do something for themselves, our job is to make that possible rather than to step in. We also offer respite stays, giving family carers a planned break while their relative stays somewhere welcoming and properly staffed by people who understand their health needs. If you would like to see The Gables, please get in touch and arrange a visit. Come and meet the team and ask us whatever you want to know.
