About Us
Millfield Nursing and Residential Home in Chesterfield offers both nursing and residential care, with qualified nurses on duty at all times. We care for older people and younger adults, including many people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays.
Having both kinds of care under one roof matters more than it may sound. It means that when somebody's health changes, they do not necessarily have to move again and start over with strangers. That continuity is worth a great deal to people and to their families.
Nursing here means steady attention to the things that keep a person comfortable and well: medicines, mobility, nutrition and hydration, skin, continence and pain, reviewed properly and discussed with the person and their family rather than handled quietly in the background. We involve GPs, district nurses and specialists early rather than late.
Alongside that, ordinary life carries on. People rise when they wake, keep their own furniture and photographs around them, choose where to spend the day and eat food that suits their taste as well as any clinical need. With dementia we rely on knowing somebody well, so we gather a person's history with their family and keep adding to it.
When somebody is nearing the end of life we aim to be honest, present and unhurried with them and with their family. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
