About Us
We are Fern Lodge Care Home, a nursing home in Chester. We provide nursing care for older people and younger adults, including those managing a mental health condition, and we take respite stays as well as permanent places.
What a nursing home offers that a residential one cannot is clinical care on site at any hour. For the people who live here that means health needs are noticed early and dealt with by staff who already know them. It means somebody can stay when their condition changes rather than moving at exactly the point when a move is hardest. And it means care at the end of life can happen here, among familiar faces.
Supporting somebody with a mental health condition in a setting like ours asks for patience and consistency. Some weeks go better than others, and what makes a placement work is that the person is not treated as a problem on the harder days. We work alongside community mental health teams and GPs so that support here and support outside are joined up.
Respite guests are assessed and cared for exactly as permanent residents are.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
