About Us
The Potteries is a nursing home in Broadstone in Dorset. We provide nursing care for older people and younger adults, and we support people living with dementia, people living with mental ill health and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places.
Qualified nurses are on duty at every hour, which means medication, wound care, continence, long term conditions and care at the end of life are managed here rather than through repeated journeys to hospital. We work closely with local GPs, community teams, therapists and mental health colleagues, and we ask for specialist advice early rather than waiting to see.
Supporting people of different ages and needs under one roof takes thought, and we plan individually rather than running everybody to one pattern. What somebody in their forties wants from a week is not what somebody in their nineties wants, and both should be possible here.
For people living with dementia we concentrate on familiarity and time. A day with a predictable shape, consistent staff, and space to respond properly when a person is distressed rather than hurry them along.
The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. We prefer to say that plainly rather than let it go unmentioned. In the meantime, the most useful thing you can do is visit, meet the nursing team and talk to families of people already living here.
