About Us

Northwood Nursing and Residential Care is a nursing home in Blackburn, in Blackburn with Darwen. We provide both nursing and residential care, which means people can stay with us as their needs change rather than having to move somewhere else at a difficult moment. We support older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, people with a learning disability or autism, adults with a physical disability, and residents with a visual or hearing impairment. We also offer respite care for planned short stays.

Having nurses on site allows us to manage health needs that are complex or changeable. Medication, wound care, continence, nutrition and the steady work of looking after long term conditions are handled here by a team who know each resident and who spot the small changes that matter.

Around the clinical side sits the ordinary life of the house. People choose when to get up, what to eat, whether they want company or their own room, and how the day is spent. We ask what a good day looks like for someone and then build the routine around that answer.

Dementia support is part of the whole home rather than something separate. We keep things familiar and unhurried, and we work with families to understand what settles a person and what does not.

Blackburn is our community and we welcome visitors without ceremony. If you are considering a permanent move or a short stay, please contact us and we will show you round and answer your questions honestly.
