About Us
Alexander Court Care Centre is a nursing home in Dagenham. We care for older people whose needs call for qualified nursing, and we also take respite stays when someone needs looking after for a shorter period or a family carer needs cover.
The difference nursing care makes is mostly in what does not happen. Having nurses on duty at all hours means that changes get noticed early, medication is managed properly, and conditions such as diabetes or a wound that needs regular attention are dealt with here by people who know the resident, instead of through a run of appointments elsewhere. We work closely with GPs, community teams and hospital staff, and we press for what a resident needs when it is slow in coming.
Dementia care runs through much of our work. We keep the day predictable, we keep faces familiar, and we spend time learning about the person, because a life history is genuinely useful information when someone can no longer tell you what is wrong. We aim for calm rather than busy, and we let people set their own pace.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Relatives are welcome at any reasonable hour and we would much rather have families closely involved than kept at a polite distance. If you would like to visit and see an ordinary day here, ring us and come along.
