Most of our work is with older adults, a good number living with dementia. We also support younger adults, people managing a mental health condition, people with a physical disability, and people who are blind, partially sighted, deaf or hard of hearing. We take on work involving alcohol or drugs as well, which a fair number of agencies quietly decline. That last point is worth saying out loud rather than burying in a list. Supporting somebody alongside a drink or drug problem asks for steadiness instead of disapproval, a willingness to come back after a week that went badly, and the judgement to know when a situation needs somebody with different training. We recruit and supervise with that in view, and we are honest about what we cannot do. The practical work is the same throughout. Washing and dressing, medicines, meals, shopping, housework, appointments, getting out of the house, and someone keeping a quiet eye on how a person is doing. We have not yet had a full inspection by the Care Quality Commission, so there is no rating to offer. Ring us and we will come out and talk it through.
