About Us

We at FirstCol Home Care Worthing are proud to provide compassionate home care across Worthing and the surrounding West Sussex communities, supporting people to live well and safely in the place they know best: their own home.

Operating throughout the BN postcode area, our team brings care directly to residents across Worthing and its neighbouring villages. By delivering support in familiar surroundings, we help the people we care for maintain their routines, their independence, and their connection to the community and loved ones around them. Whether someone lives alone, with a partner, or alongside family, we tailor our visits to fit naturally into the rhythm of their day.

Our specialist support covers a wide range of needs, ensuring that people with differing circumstances can access thoughtful, personalised care at home. We support individuals living with dementia, helping families navigate memory loss with patience, consistency, and gentle reassurance. For adults with learning disabilities or autism, we focus on enabling independence, respecting individual preferences, and building trusted relationships over time. We also care for people managing mental health conditions, offering steady, non judgemental support that promotes wellbeing and stability.

Our team is experienced in supporting those with physical disabilities, assisting with mobility, personal care, and daily tasks in a way that preserves dignity and choice. For people living with visual or hearing impairments, we adapt our communication and approach so that every interaction feels clear, calm, and respectful. We additionally provide sensitive support for individuals affected by eating disorders or by alcohol and drug misuse, working alongside families and healthcare professionals to encourage recovery and promote healthier daily living.

In practice, this means a carer who listens carefully, learns the small details that matter to each person, and provides reliable support whether that involves help with washing and dressing, medication prompts, meal preparation, companionship, or assistance getting out and about. Families tell us that knowing a familiar, friendly face is calling round brings real peace of mind, particularly when distance or work makes daily visits difficult for them.

We want to be open about our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection, which took place on 16 November 2021 and resulted in an overall rating of Requires Improvement. The inspectors rated us as Good for Caring, which reflects the warmth, kindness, and respect our team shows every day. They identified areas for us to strengthen across Safe, Effective, Responsive, and Well led, and we take that feedback seriously. We see the rating not as the end of the story but as a clear roadmap, and we are committed to listening, learning, and improving so that every person we support receives care that is consistently safe, effective, and well organised.

Choosing home care is a significant decision, and we understand the worry and love behind every enquiry. If you are exploring support for yourself or someone dear to you in Worthing or the wider West Sussex area, we would be glad to hear from you. We will take the time to understand your situation, answer your questions honestly, and help you decide whether our care is the right fit for your family.

What the inspectors found

A plain English summary of the Care Quality Commission inspection behind the current rating of FirstCol Services Limited - Home Care - Worthing. Report published 16 November 2021.

  • 16 September 2021

Safe

Inspectors found that not enough improvement had been made with managing medicines safely. Some people remained at potential risk because staff did not have enough guidance and information. Inspectors identified a breach of regulation because medicines were not always safely or properly managed.

Effective

Inspectors found that people's needs had been assessed and that staff met them effectively. Staff received appropriate training and support. However, people were not always supported to have choice and control, and assessments of their capacity to make decisions were not always considered in line with the Mental Capacity Act. The provider had not always checked that people making decisions for others had the legal authority to do so. Inspectors identified a breach of regulation because the need for consent had not always been considered.

Well-led

Inspectors found that the provider had made some improvements to oversight since the last inspection. Some improvement had not been made, and the provider was still in breach of regulations. Care management and incident reporting systems worked effectively, and the registered manager, who had recently joined, gave people chances to give feedback.

What people told the inspectors

People told inspectors they felt safe and were confident to contact the office if they had any concerns. People were positive about the support they received from staff, and said staff used PPE.
