About Us

At Turning Point in Salford and Bolton, we provide supported living and home care for adults across Manchester and the surrounding area. Our work centres on people with learning disabilities and autism, and we also support those living with mental health conditions, physical disabilities, visual or hearing impairments, and older adults as well as younger adults who need a bit of extra help to live their lives as they choose.

We believe that where someone lives and how they spend their time should be shaped by them, not by a care plan written without their input. So we take time to get to know the people we support properly, understanding what matters to them day to day, what their goals are, and what kind of support actually helps rather than gets in the way. That means our approach looks different for everyone, because everyone is different.

Our staff work hard to build genuine relationships with the people they support. It takes consistency and honesty to earn someone's trust, and we do not take that lightly. We try to recruit people who understand that good support is often quiet and unobtrusive, and who can step back when someone is ready to do things for themselves.

Being based in Salford means we understand the local area and the communities our clients are part of. We work closely with families, local authorities and other professionals to make sure the people we support have access to everything they need, whether that is healthcare, social opportunities or simply a familiar face at the right time.

We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and remain committed to being open and transparent about the support we provide. If you would like to find out more about whether we might be the right fit for you or someone you care about, we would genuinely love to hear from you.

More about the care at Turning Point – Salford & Bolton Learning Disabilities Supported Living

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Learning Disability / Autism

Good support for adults with a learning disability or autism is built around the person, their routines, communication style and sensory preferences, with a focus on building independence rather than doing everything for them. Turning Point describes this group as the centre of its work in Salford and Bolton. Families and commissioners should expect clear person centred plans, regular reviews with the local authority, and evidence that goals set by the person are actually being worked on.

Mental Health

Stability, predictable days and being treated with dignity matter enormously for adults living with longer term mental health conditions, alongside help to keep appointments, manage medication and stay connected to people. Turning Point is registered to support this group as part of its wider work across Manchester and Salford. Families should ask what experience staff have with specific diagnoses, how the service responds when someone becomes unwell, and how it links with community mental health teams.

Physical Disability

Practical support for adults with a physical disability usually covers personal care, moving and handling, help with equipment and enabling as much independence as the person wants at home and in the community. Turning Point is registered for this care type in Salford. Because it delivers support in people's own homes rather than a single building, families should ask how the service assesses accessibility, works with occupational therapy and manages hoists or other equipment safely.

Visual / Hearing Impairment

Support for people with sight or hearing loss often comes down to small, consistent habits, good lighting, clear speech, keeping items in familiar places, checking hearing aids and being confident with loops or written notes. Turning Point is registered to support adults with visual or hearing impairment. Families should ask how workers are briefed on someone's specific sensory needs and how communication preferences are recorded and followed by every visiting member of staff.

Younger Adults

Younger adults using support services generally want a life that looks like their friends' lives, work or college, hobbies, relationships and choice over their own routine, rather than a schedule shaped around older people. This is central to how Turning Point in Salford describes its work, particularly with adults who have learning disabilities or autism. Families should ask how the service supports employment, education, socialising and travel, and how it helps people take sensible risks.
