Trustline Care provides care and support in people's own homes across Portsmouth. We know that inviting someone into your home is not a small thing, and we take the trust that involves seriously. Most of the people we support are older adults who need help with the practical parts of the day, whether that is getting up and dressed in the morning, managing medication safely, preparing food or simply having someone reliable call in. We support people living with dementia, where knowing a person's routines and preferences is worth more than any amount of paperwork, and we work with adults who have a learning disability or who are autistic, where our role is to support independence rather than to take decisions away. We also support people living with a physical disability, helping with mobility, transfers and the equipment that makes daily life workable. Support is arranged around the person. Some people want a single visit each day, others need several, and some want more help for a short period after a hospital stay before scaling back. We are happy to start small and adjust. We recruit carefully, train our carers for the tasks they carry out and keep in regular contact with families so that nobody is left guessing. If something is not right, we would rather hear about it and put it straight. If you are looking at care at home in Portsmouth, please call us. We can arrange to visit, listen to what you need and set out clearly what support would look like.

We are Trustmark Care, based in Portsmouth, and we provide care in people's own homes across the city. We support older people, including many living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, adults living with mental ill health, people with physical disabilities, and younger adults. Most people who contact us have not yet worked out what they need, and that is entirely normal. Helping you think it through is part of our job rather than something to settle before you ring. We visit, ask how the day actually goes, find out what has become difficult and what somebody still wants to do unaided, and then say what we think would help. Sometimes that is less than a family expected, and we would rather be honest about it than sell more than is needed. Support might be a short call in the morning to get the day going, a prompt and a check with medication, a cooked meal and company while it is eaten, help getting safely about the house, support to get out into the community, or several visits a day. For autistic people, predictability matters a great deal, so changes are explained in advance and staffing is kept steady where we can. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ring us if you would like to talk through what support might look like for you or a relative.

Ultimate Care Agency provides care and support to people in their own homes across Portsmouth. We work with older people, younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Home care is only worth having if it fits the person. We visit first and talk properly about how the day actually goes now, what has become difficult and what somebody wants to carry on doing themselves. The plan comes out of that conversation, agreed with the person and with family or an advocate if they want them there. We keep the team around each household small. Being helped by somebody who already knows you is not a luxury, particularly for autistic people and for anybody who finds new faces difficult, so we introduce staff properly and avoid changes at short notice wherever we can. Support covers personal care, medication, meals and drinks, housework and laundry, shopping, getting out to appointments, work, college or something sociable, and company. Where somebody has a physical disability we look closely at equipment, transfers and how the home is set up. Where sight or hearing is affected we think about how we announce ourselves. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to arrange a visit.

We at Universal Care Agency are proud to provide compassionate home care across Portsmouth, supporting older people and adults with a wide range of needs to live well in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. Operating throughout the PO postcode area, our team reaches families across Portsmouth and the surrounding communities. Because we deliver care where you already feel most at ease, your own front door, your favourite chair, the garden you have tended for years, there is no upheaval, no unfamiliar surroundings to adjust to. Instead, we bring thoughtful, professional support directly to you, working around the rhythms and routines that make your house a home. Our care covers a broad spectrum of needs, reflecting the reality that no two people require exactly the same support. For older people, we offer the steady, attentive companionship and practical help that allow daily life to continue with dignity and independence. Our dementia care is grounded in patience, consistency, and genuine understanding, recognising that familiar faces and gentle routines can make an enormous difference to someone living with memory loss. We also support adults with learning disabilities and autism, embracing each person's individuality and helping them pursue the life they choose, on their own terms. For those living with physical disabilities or visual and hearing impairments, our team adapts its approach with sensitivity and skill, ensuring that communication, mobility, and personal preferences are always respected. In practice, this means families can rely on us for everything from a short visit to help with morning routines, medication, and a warm breakfast, through to more extensive support throughout the day. We work closely with relatives, healthcare professionals, and the wider community to ensure that care plans evolve alongside the person, never the other way around. Above all, we believe in being a reassuring, familiar presence, the kind of carer who knows how you take your tea and remembers the name of your grandchildren.

- Home Care
We Care 24x7 provides care at home for people across Portsmouth, and as our name suggests we can support people at any hour, including overnight where that is what a household needs. Most of our work is with older people. We help with washing and dressing, prompting and support with medication, meals and drinks, laundry, shopping and keeping the home comfortable. We also help people get out of the house, whether to an appointment, to the shops or simply for some air and a change of scene, and we make time for the conversation that goes with it rather than treating a visit as a list to be got through. We also support younger adults, arranging visits around work, study and family life rather than expecting somebody to plan a week around our rota. Being able to cover the whole day matters most at the times families find hardest, early mornings, evenings and nights, and we try to keep the same care workers going to the same households so that a person is not meeting a stranger at three in the morning. Care is arranged after a proper conversation with the person and, where they want it, their family, and reviewed as needs change. Please ring us if you would like to talk it through.

Based in the PO postcode area, our team is well placed to reach families throughout Southsea and the surrounding neighbourhoods of Portsmouth. Being rooted locally means we understand the community we serve, from the familiar coastal streets to the quiet residential roads, and we tailor our visits around the rhythm of each person's daily life. Whether someone needs a short morning call to help start the day or more regular support throughout the week, we aim to be a reliable and friendly presence on the doorstep. Our care covers older person care, general home care, dementia care, support for people with physical disabilities, and care for those living with visual or hearing impairments. In practice, this means our team is experienced in helping with the everyday moments that matter, from personal care, medication prompts and meal preparation to mobility support, companionship and assistance getting out and about. For families of someone living with dementia, we focus on calm, consistent routines and gentle communication that helps reduce anxiety and preserve a sense of familiarity. For those with sensory impairments, we take extra care with clear communication, safe navigation around the home, and respecting the techniques and aids that each person already relies on. For people with physical disabilities, we work alongside the individual to support independence, dignity and choice in how care is delivered. That is why we focus on building genuine relationships, listening carefully to each person and their family, and adapting our support as needs change over time. CareHub Portsmouth is currently awaiting its first CQC inspection and therefore does not yet hold a published rating. As a newer provider, we are fully registered with the Care Quality Commission and committed to meeting its standards from day one, with transparent practices and a clear focus on safe, effective and person centred care. Crescent Office is a home care provider based in Southsea, supporting people in their own homes across Portsmouth. We work with older people, adults with physical disabilities and younger adults who need help managing everyday life. We should be straight about our inspection. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have taken that seriously rather than minimised it. Assessments and care plans have been reworked, record keeping tightened, and supervision of care workers strengthened so that problems surface internally before anyone else has to raise them. There is still work in progress. Ask us what changed and we will give you detail rather than reassurance. The job itself is unchanged and the people we visit deserve it done properly. Help with washing and dressing, medicines, meals, getting out of the house, and the practical support that makes staying at home realistic. For adults with physical disabilities, that often means care workers who know exactly how a transfer is done and equipment used correctly every time, which is a matter of training and continuity rather than good intentions. We keep the same workers with the same households as far as the rota allows. Portsmouth is a compact city, which helps us plan visits we can genuinely keep to. If you are arranging care here, please call and we will be honest about what we can take on.

- Home Care
We at Crown Care Solutions (Southsea) are proud to offer compassionate home care across Southsea and the wider Portsmouth area, supporting people to live well and safely in the place they know best: their own home. Rooted in the coastal community of Southsea, our agency understands the rhythms of local life along the Hampshire shoreline. Rather than asking people to leave familiar surroundings, we bring thoughtful, personalised support directly to the doorstep, whether that be a seafront flat, a family home in the terraces, or a bungalow tucked away in a quieter corner of the PO postcode area. Home care allows the sights, sounds and routines that shape a person's identity to remain at the heart of daily living, and we work carefully around each household to ensure our visits feel natural rather than intrusive. Our care is shaped around a broad range of needs. We support older people who may need a helping hand with everyday tasks, companionship, or more comprehensive daily assistance. For those living with dementia, our approach is patient, familiar and reassuring, focusing on consistency and gentle routines that help reduce anxiety and preserve dignity. We also support adults living with mental health conditions, offering steady, respectful care that promotes wellbeing and independence at a pace that suits the individual. For people with physical disabilities, we provide practical, sensitive assistance that empowers rather than takes over, helping residents maintain the lifestyle and choices that matter to them. Our team is also experienced in supporting people with visual or hearing impairments, adapting communication and daily support so that no one feels isolated in their own home. Younger adults with care needs are equally welcomed, and we tailor our approach to reflect the goals, aspirations and social lives of people at every stage of adulthood. In practice, this means families can expect a care plan built around the individual, not a template. We take time to understand personal histories, preferences, cultural backgrounds and family dynamics before agreeing how support will look each day. Whether it is help with personal care in the morning, medication prompts, preparing a favourite meal, accompanying someone to a local appointment, or simply sharing a cup of tea and a conversation, our aim is to weave support gently into the fabric of everyday life. For relatives, particularly those living further afield, this offers genuine peace of mind that a loved one is not only safe, but also known, valued and heard. Crown Care Solutions (Southsea) is currently awaiting its first Care Quality Commission inspection and therefore does not yet hold a published rating. We recognise that families understandably look to the CQC for reassurance, and we welcome that scrutiny. In the meantime, we are committed to operating to the standards the CQC expects: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. We are always happy to speak openly about our policies, our staff training and the way we monitor the quality of the care we deliver, so that families can make an informed decision with confidence. Choosing home care is a deeply personal decision, and it often comes at a time when families are balancing love, worry and practical questions all at once. If you are exploring support for yourself or someone dear to you in Southsea or the surrounding Portsmouth area, we would be honoured to listen. Please get in touch for a friendly, no obligation conversation, and let us help you find a way forward that feels right for your family.

As a newer presence within the regulated care landscape, Medica Universal is currently listed by the Care Quality Commission as Not Yet Rated. Arranging and funding home care in Portsmouth
What the published grades cover
Two agencies here are rated Outstanding, Home Instead Portsmouth and Right at Home Portsmouth, and nineteen more are rated Good. Four have been told they require improvement and two are rated Inadequate, which is a reason to look hard at the report rather than to dismiss a provider without reading it. Thirty three carry no rating at all. That usually means a recent registration rather than a hidden problem, but it does leave you without an independent view, so those agencies deserve more questions from you, not fewer.
The questions that reveal how an agency runs
Continuity decides most of the experience. Ask how many different carers would come in a fortnight, whether the same people cover weekends, and what happens when someone is ill or on leave. Ask the minimum length of a visit, whether travel time eats into it, and who telephones if a carer is delayed. Ask how the office is staffed in the evening and at weekends, since that is precisely when things go wrong. Finally, ask to see a blank care plan and find out how soon it would be reviewed once visits begin.
Matching the package to the day
Care at home is bought in visits, so the shape of the package matters as much as the provider. A morning call to get up, wash and dress, a lunchtime visit for a meal and medicines, and a call at bedtime is a common pattern, and some agencies also offer sitting service, waking nights or live in support. Be honest about the parts of the day that are hardest rather than spreading help thinly across all of them. A package built around the difficult hours works better than one built around the clock.
Choosing between home care agencies in Portsmouth
Beginning with a care needs assessment
Anyone who appears to need care can ask for a care needs assessment, free of charge and whatever their savings. It looks at getting up and dressed, meals, medicines, mobility, continence and the help relatives already give, and produces a written account of what is needed and how often. That account drives the support plan and any funding decision. Requests go to Portsmouth City Council Adult Social Care, which is responsible for assessing need and for arranging funded support where a person qualifies.
What it costs and who contributes
Home care is charged by the hour or by the visit, and rates vary between agencies, usually rising at weekends, on bank holidays and for calls outside ordinary hours. The financial assessment compares income and capital with the national thresholds and sets the contribution towards eligible care. The value of the house someone lives in is disregarded while care is delivered there, which is an important difference from a permanent move into a home. Some people take a direct payment and buy the care themselves, choosing the agency and shaping the rota.
Reading a quote and starting well
Ask for hourly rates in writing, including weekends, and check whether mileage is added and what notice is needed to change or cancel a call. Agree a short trial and review it honestly after a fortnight, because changing agency early is far easier than unpicking a poor arrangement months later. The profiles on this page carry the inspection findings in full, which is the quickest way to decide who is worth a first telephone call.
Frequently asked questions about home care in Portsmouth
How many home care agencies are there in Portsmouth?
Portsmouth has 60 CQC registered home care agencies: 2 Outstanding, 19 Good, 5 Requires improvement, 2 Inadequate, 32 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
How much does home care cost in Portsmouth?
Hourly care visits, South East: £28.00 to £36.96 an hour. Middle half of prices from 24 agencies. Median £32.92. Shown for South East because too few Portsmouth agencies publish a rate. Published prices come from agencies that publish rates, so treat them as a guide. Ask the agency for its own price.
Which home care agencies in Portsmouth were inspected most recently?
Bridgecare Solutions Ltd 2 (15 September 2026), Admiral Care Limited (21 May 2026) and Triple M Healthcare Ltd (12 April 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.
Which home care agencies in Portsmouth appear on this page?
Sixty providers registered with the Care Quality Commission to deliver care in people's own homes across Portsmouth are listed here. Home Instead Portsmouth and Right at Home Portsmouth are rated Outstanding, while Bluebird Care, Aster Care, Apex Prime Care and Handle With Care are among those rated Good. A large part of the list has registered recently and has no published rating yet. Each profile shows the provider type and the current CQC position.
How does home care differ from a care home or a nursing home?
Home care sends carers to the person at agreed times, so the house, the routine and the neighbours stay as they are. A care home provides accommodation with personal care and staff on site at all times, while a nursing home adds a registered nurse on duty around the clock. Almost every provider listed here delivers care at home rather than accommodation. When visits can no longer keep someone safe through the night, the comparison with residential care is worth revisiting.
What should I ask a home care agency before care begins?
Ask how many different carers will visit across a fortnight and whether the same team covers weekends and bank holidays. Ask about the minimum visit length, what happens if a carer is running late, and who answers the telephone out of hours. Find out how staff are trained for the particular need involved, whether that is dementia, moving and handling or medication support. Ask to see a sample care plan and confirm when it would first be reviewed.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Portsmouth?
Ask the adult social care team at Portsmouth City Council for a care needs assessment. It is free and open to anyone who appears to need care, regardless of income or savings. A social worker will discuss the daily routine, mobility, memory, medication and the support already in place, usually at home or before a hospital discharge. The written outcome records the level of help required and forms the basis of any support plan.
Will Portsmouth City Council pay for care at home?
It may, where the needs assessment identifies eligible needs and the financial assessment shows income and capital below the national thresholds. The value of the property a person lives in is not counted while care is provided there. Anyone assessed as able to pay in full can still ask the council to arrange the care, and some prefer a direct payment so they can choose the agency. Where the council contributes, the person pays an assessed amount from their income.
How far ahead should we arrange care at home?
Start once the difficult parts of the day have become routine rather than occasional, because agencies do not always have capacity in a particular neighbourhood. Assessment, contracting and the first care plan meeting usually take a fortnight or more between them. Beginning early leaves room to trial one provider and move on if the fit is wrong. Reading the inspection reports in advance narrows the list before any calls are made.
