Our work is with older adults and with younger adults, and we keep those two things distinct rather than running everybody through the same routine. For most of the older people we visit, the whole point of us is that they stay where they are. A familiar house on a familiar street is worth a great deal, and losing it is often feared more than the condition that threatens it. For the younger adults we support, the job is usually to make independence workable rather than to take things over. We start with a conversation and not a form. What can you still manage. What has become difficult. What would you rather we did not touch. From that we agree a plan, write it in plain language, and revise it when things change, which they generally do. Visits run from half an hour upwards and cover personal care, medicines, meals, housework, shopping, appointments and company. We aim to send the same few workers to each household, because being let in by name matters. We have not yet had a full inspection by the Care Quality Commission, so there is no rating to show you.
