About Us

Lifeways Community Care in Nottingham provides support to people in their own homes across the city and county. We work with older people and younger adults, including people with a learning disability, people who are autistic, people living with mental ill health, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment.

The support we offer exists to serve somebody's own life rather than to run it. Some of the people we support need help with personal care, medication, cooking and keeping a home going. Others need far less and simply want reliable help with particular parts of the week. We ask first, we agree what is wanted, and we take care not to do things for people that they would rather do for themselves.

Communication is central to this work. Not everybody uses speech, so our staff learn how each person makes themselves understood and how they show that something is wrong. Where somebody becomes distressed, we look for the cause instead of treating the behaviour as the problem.

We keep staff teams settled, because familiarity is what makes support effective, and we plan with the person, their family and other professionals so that everybody is working from the same understanding.
