About Us

Our Newark domiciliary care agency, part of Mencap, supports adults in their own homes across Newark and the surrounding part of Nottinghamshire.

Most of the people we work with are adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults building an independent life and older people who have been living independently for years and want to carry on. We also support older people more generally.

Supporting somebody in their own home is different from supporting them anywhere else. It is their space, their routine and their decision how things run, and our job is to make the life they have chosen workable rather than to substitute a tidier version of it. In practice that can mean personal care and help with health needs, or it can mean support with cooking, money, the household, getting to work or college, keeping appointments and staying in touch with family and friends.

For people with a learning disability and autistic people, how support is delivered counts as much as what is delivered. Clear information, staff who stay the same, honest notice before anything changes and real choice about who comes into your home prevent most difficulties before they start.
