About Creative Support - Services

We are Creative Support in North Yorkshire, based in Whitby and providing support in people's own homes to adults with a learning disability and to autistic adults. Our approach is about enabling people rather than doing things to them. Support is planned with the person, around the life they want, rather than around what happens to be convenient for us to deliver. For some that means help with the practicalities of running a home, managing money and keeping on top of appointments and correspondence. For others it means backing to hold down a job or a course, to keep a tenancy going, to stay connected with family, or simply to get through the harder stretches without everything unravelling. Communication matters more than anything else in this work. We take time to learn how each person tells us what they want, in whatever form that takes, and we make sure every worker understands it before supporting somebody alone. We recruit for attitude as much as for experience. What tends to matter most to the people we support is a worker who turns up, listens properly and does not give up when progress is slow. We work closely with families, social workers and health professionals, and we keep support under review as people move forward. Our most recent CQC overall rating is good.
