About Us
Asters Specialist Care supports adults in their own homes across Scarborough and the surrounding parts of North Yorkshire.
Much of our work is with autistic people, people with a learning disability and people living with mental health needs, and we also support older people. A good number of those we work with are younger adults.
We start with communication, every time. Not everyone tells us what they need in words, and learning how each person does tell us is our job rather than theirs. From there we look at what makes a day manageable rather than overwhelming, which often comes down to consistent staff, routines that hold and proper notice before anything changes.
Support itself is practical. Help with cooking, shopping, budgeting, appointments and post. Someone alongside a person managing anxiety or getting used to a new routine. Backing while somebody takes on a job, a course or a tenancy for the first time. The amount should be what a person actually needs, and it should be able to reduce as well as grow.
For people living with mental health needs we watch for early signs that things are shifting and work with community teams rather than around them.
We also cover a fairly rural area, so we plan rotas with travel built in rather than taken out of anyone's time.
