We are Holistic Care, a home care provider based in Chatham, supporting people in their own homes across Medway. Our work is with older people, with adults who have a learning disability, with autistic adults and with younger adults. These are genuinely different kinds of work and we would rather say so plainly than claim a single approach covers them all. An older person who wants a hand getting up and then wants to be left in peace needs something quite unlike the support an autistic adult might need to keep a week on track. Every arrangement begins with a proper conversation with the person and anyone they want present, covering what they still want to do themselves, what makes a day difficult, what time things really need to happen and who to contact when circumstances change. We take time to learn how somebody communicates, particularly when they are anxious, and we keep the same small team going to the same person wherever we can. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, and we welcome direct questions from anyone weighing us up.
