About Us
Home not Hospital provides care at home across Preston and the north of the region. We support older adults and younger adults, including people with a learning disability and autistic adults.
Our name says what we are for. A great many people end up in hospital, or stay there longer than they need to, not because their medical needs demand it but because the support to manage at home is not in place. That is a poor outcome for almost everybody involved, and for frail or confused people a spell on a ward often leaves them weaker and less confident than when they arrived.
So our work is about making home workable. That might mean intensive support for a few weeks after a discharge, while somebody gets their strength and confidence back, or a longer arrangement for a person whose needs are not going to change. For adults with a learning disability and autistic adults it more often means steady support for ordinary life: routine, getting out, work or college, and help that steps back as confidence grows.
We would rather be honest early if home is not going to be manageable than let a family discover it the hard way.
