1 Homecare is a home care agency working in Preston and across Lancashire. We provide support in people's own homes, which for most of the people we visit is the whole reason they chose us. Staying put, in a familiar house on a familiar street, is worth a great deal. A large part of our work is with people living with dementia. In someone's own home that work looks different from how it looks in a care home. The surroundings are already familiar, which helps enormously, but the risks are different too, and so is the strain on whoever else lives there. We pay attention to both. Often the most useful thing we do in a week is give a husband or a daughter a few hours in which they are not responsible for anybody. We also support people with a learning disability, autistic people, and people who are blind, partially sighted, deaf or hard of hearing. Communication is something we think about properly rather than assume. If writing things down works better than speaking, we write them down. If you need the same worker because a new face is genuinely distressing, we do our best to arrange it. Our visits cover personal care, medication, meals, housework, shopping and company, in whatever combination is needed. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
