About Caremark (Thanet)

We at Caremark (Thanet) are proud to provide compassionate home care across Margate and the wider Thanet area of Kent, supporting individuals to live well and safely in the place they know best: their own home. Operating throughout the CT postcode area, our team travels across Margate and surrounding communities to deliver personalised support tailored around each individual's daily rhythms, preferences, and family life. Rather than asking people to adjust to an unfamiliar environment, we bring trusted care to familiar front doors, helping residents remain connected to their neighbourhoods, gardens, and cherished routines. The breadth of our specialisms reflects the diverse needs of the people we support. We provide dementia care delivered with patience and consistency, recognising how vital familiar faces and gentle routines are for those living with memory loss. Our team supports adults with learning disabilities and autism, focusing on enabling independence, choice, and meaningful daily activity. We also offer thoughtful mental health support, working alongside individuals during difficult periods with dignity and without judgement. For those living with physical disability, or with visual or hearing impairment, our carers adapt their approach to communication and mobility assistance so that every visit feels respectful and empowering. We further provide specialist support for individuals managing eating disorders and those recovering from alcohol or drug misuse, offering structured, non judgemental care that prioritises wellbeing, stability, and long term recovery. In practice, this means families can expect carers who take time to understand the whole person, not just the care plan. Whether the need is help with personal care in the morning, companionship through the afternoon, medication prompts, meal preparation, or more complex support, our aim is always the same: to make daily life feel manageable, safe, and dignified. We are pleased that the Care Quality Commission has rated us Good overall, with Good ratings across all five inspection domains: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. For families, this independent assurance offers peace of mind that the care delivered in their loved one's home meets recognised standards of safety, kindness, and effective leadership. Choosing home care is a deeply personal decision, and we understand the weight that comes with it. If you are exploring options for a parent, partner, or relative in Margate or the surrounding Thanet area, we warmly invite you to get in touch. We are here to listen, answer your questions, and help you find the right path forward, at a pace that feels right for your family.

What the inspectors found

A plain English summary of the Care Quality Commission inspection behind the current rating of Caremark (Thanet). Report published 28 November 2019.

  • 3 September 2019

Safe

Inspectors found that people were protected from avoidable harm and abuse by staff who knew how to identify and escalate concerns. Risks were identified, with clear plans in place. Trained staff supported people to take medicines, but care plans did not hold enough information about the medicines people were prescribed. CQC made a recommendation about this.

Effective

Inspectors found that staff received the training and support they needed for their roles. Staff were encouraged to become specialists and to support other staff with their learning. People were supported to access healthcare services and to follow the advice of healthcare professionals.

Caring

Inspectors found that staff researched people's background and culture so that they could give sensitive and appropriate support. People told inspectors that staff took a compassionate approach to their role. People were also involved in delivering training to staff about their experience of using care services.

Responsive

Inspectors found that people were involved in writing and reviewing their care plans. Care plans were updated when people's risks and circumstances changed. The service worked with local community groups to give people more access to activities, social events and networks, to reduce the risk of social isolation. The provider made adjustments so that information was accessible to people.

Well-led

Inspectors found a clear vision and plan for the future of the service. The provider had introduced electronic care plans and call monitoring over the summer of 2019, but was still developing systems to use the call monitoring information effectively. Audits were in place, but did not always show that the quality of records had been reviewed. CQC made a recommendation about each of these areas.

What people told the inspectors

People told inspectors they received a personalised service and were involved in writing and reviewing their care plans. They also said they were confident that any concerns they raised would be listened to.
