About Turning Point - DCA

We are Turning Point in Kent, based at Broadstairs, and we provide support in people's own homes and in the community. Our work is with adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, younger adults, older people and people living with dementia. Much of what we do is about making an ordinary life possible: managing a home, handling money and post, keeping on top of a tenancy, and getting out to work, college, appointments and the places somebody actually wants to be. Where personal care and help with medication are needed, we provide those too, but they are rarely the whole of it. Support is planned with the person, in their own words, alongside family and professionals where they want them involved, and we review it as circumstances change rather than letting a plan go stale. Wherever we can, we help somebody do a thing rather than doing it for them, because a skill used is a skill kept. Consistency is what we work hardest at. The same staff wherever the rota allows, routines that hold, and changes explained in advance. For autistic people that predictability is a need rather than a preference, and for people living with dementia familiarity does more good than any technique. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are a family member or a professional working out whether we would suit somebody, ring us and we will give you a straight answer.
