About The Charterhouse

The Charterhouse provides home care to people living in Islington and the surrounding parts of London. Our work takes place in flats, houses and sheltered schemes across the borough, and it begins from the understanding that staying at home is what most people want and that it is often entirely achievable with the right support in place. We support older people, including a great many living with dementia, as well as younger adults, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Some of the people we visit need help at one point in the day. Others need several calls, or a longer period of support to manage personal care, medication and meals safely. Dementia support in particular depends on familiarity. We try to keep the same carers visiting the same households so that arriving does not feel like an intrusion, and so that our staff can tell the difference between an ordinary difficult morning and something that needs acting on. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you are weighing up home care for yourself or for a relative, we are happy to talk through what is realistic before anyone commits to anything.
