    • Home Care

Hadi Care Wakefield and Barnsley is a home care agency based in Huddersfield, supporting adults in their own homes across the area. The people we work with are a broad mix: older people and younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, people with a physical disability or a sensory impairment, and people managing a mental health condition. Visits cover personal care, medication, meals, help to move safely about the home, shopping, appointments and company. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating. We would rather set that out here than have a family come across it later, and we would encourage anyone considering us to meet the manager, ask for references and judge us on how we actually operate. Language, food and faith are taken seriously here because they are part of who somebody is rather than preferences to be accommodated when convenient. Where we can, we match care workers and the people they visit thoughtfully. Support is agreed with the person, written in plain language and revisited as circumstances change. If you are arranging care at home locally, please get in touch.

    • Home Care

Agaped Healthlink provides care and support to people in their own homes in Huddersfield and across Kirklees. We support older people and younger adults who need a hand to carry on living independently. What we do is mostly practical. Help to get washed and dressed in the morning and settled at night. Support with medication. Meals prepared, shopping fetched, the house kept in order. Help to get to an appointment, or simply out for a while. For some people that is one short visit a day and for others it is several, and the difference between the two is worked out at home with the person, not decided in advance. We think the character of a care agency shows in small reliabilities. Arriving when we said we would. Staying for the time agreed rather than rushing off. Sending the same carers, so that nobody has to explain their own household every week. Ringing a family before they have to ring us. We keep our rounds tight and local so that these things are achievable rather than aspirational. Our carers are checked and trained before they visit anybody, and they have senior staff they can reach when something unexpected happens. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. If you are weighing up care at home, we are glad to talk without any pressure to commit.

    • Home Care

Mencap in Kirklees provides support at home for people in Huddersfield and across the Kirklees district. We work with adults who have a learning disability or autism, including older people and younger adults, supporting them in their own homes and out in their own communities. Our purpose is to make ordinary life workable rather than to run anybody's life for them. For some people that means help with personal care and daily routines. For others it means doing a weekly shop and cooking properly, keeping on top of bills and appointments, getting to a job or a course, or carrying on with something they have always done. We are careful about the line between supporting a person and taking over, because that line is easily crossed by staff who are in a hurry to be helpful. We pay close attention to how people communicate, which is not always through words, and we take the time needed to get it right rather than assuming. Plans are written with the person, reviewed honestly and changed when they stop fitting. We also work alongside families and with social work and health colleagues, since joined up support is what tends to last. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep examining our own practice, particularly around choice and independence. If you would like to talk about support for yourself or someone in your family, we are happy to meet and explain how we work.

Arranging and funding home care in Huddersfield

The judgement here is about people rather than premises. Care at home is delivered by whoever comes through the door, so reliability, continuity and the ability to flex as needs change matter more than anything else. Fifty three registered agencies currently serve Huddersfield, which leaves genuine scope to be selective. A useful starting point is to write down what an ordinary day actually requires, whether that is help getting up and dressed, prompting with medication, preparing meals, company through the afternoon or support overnight. That list becomes the yardstick for every conversation that follows.

Reading the Inspection Outcomes

Every agency listed on this page is registered with the Care Quality Commission, and most carry a published rating. Three of them hold Outstanding, thirty are rated Good, six have been told they Require Improvement, and fourteen have not yet been rated. An absent rating is not a warning in itself, because an agency registered recently may simply be waiting on a first inspection, though it does leave you with less independent evidence to weigh. Where a rating does exist, the report behind it is far more informative than the single word on the front, since it shows whether any concern sat with the care itself or with record keeping and management.

What to Look for Beyond the Rating

Ask how the agency protects continuity, because a rota that sends someone different to every call undoes much of what makes care at home worthwhile. Ask what happens when a regular carer falls ill, how visit times are set and whether families are told when a carer is running late, and how often the care plan is revisited as needs shift. It is worth establishing who answers the telephone out of hours and how a complaint is handled. Agencies that answer these questions plainly, without hedging, are usually the ones that run well from day to day.

Choosing between home care agencies in Huddersfield

Anyone who appears to need support can ask for a care needs assessment, which is free and is not means tested. Kirklees Metropolitan Council is responsible for carrying out that assessment and for arranging funded support, so it is the right first call whether or not you expect any help towards the bill. The assessment records what support is needed and how much of it, which is valuable information even for a family who will pay privately. A separate financial assessment then looks at income and capital to work out what contribution, if any, will be made towards the cost.

How Funded Support Tends to Work

Where someone qualifies for help, the support can often be taken as a direct payment, which lets the person choose their own agency, or it can be commissioned on their behalf. Anyone whose savings sit above the threshold arranges and pays for care themselves, but can still ask for an assessment and for advice on what is available locally. A relative providing regular unpaid care can also request a carer's assessment in their own right, which is separate from the assessment of the person being cared for.

What Shapes the Price

Home care is normally charged by the visit or by the hour, so the weekly total follows the number of calls and the length of each one. Early mornings, evenings, weekends and waking nights are usually charged at a higher rate, and live in arrangements are priced on a different basis again. Ask each agency for its full rate card in writing, including anything added for bank holidays or travel, and check how much notice is required to change or cancel a visit. Comparing written quotations from two or three agencies is the clearest way to see what you are committing to.

Shown for Yorkshire and The Humber because too few Kirklees agencies publish a rate. Published prices come from agencies that publish rates, so treat them as a guide. Ask the agency for its own price.

Which home care agencies in Huddersfield were inspected most recently?

Constant Healthcare Ltd (20 August 2026), Limitless Care Ltd (30 June 2026) and Bespoke Care & Support Services (9 March 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.

Which home care agencies cover Huddersfield?

Fifty three registered home care agencies currently serve Huddersfield, and all of them appear on this page. They range from national names with a local branch to smaller independent agencies working across the area. Each listing links through to a profile showing the provider's registration details and, where one has been published, its Care Quality Commission rating. Filtering the list against the hours and type of support you need is usually quicker than contacting agencies one by one.

What is the difference between home care and a care home?

Home care sends trained carers to a person's own address for agreed visits, so the person keeps their home, their routine and their neighbourhood. A care home provides accommodation alongside personal care, with staff on site around the clock. A nursing home goes further again by having registered nurses on duty, which suits people with clinical needs that cannot safely be met by visiting carers. Many families begin with home care and only consider a move when the level of support needed outgrows what visits can provide.

What should I ask a home care agency in Huddersfield before signing up?

Ask how many different carers are likely to attend and what the agency does to keep that group small and consistent. Check how visits are scheduled, what the arrangement is if a carer is delayed or unwell, and who you contact outside office hours. Ask to see a sample care plan and find out how often it is reviewed as needs change. Finally, request the full rate card in writing so that evening, weekend and bank holiday charges are clear before anything is agreed.

How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Huddersfield?

Contact Kirklees Metropolitan Council and ask for an adult social care assessment, which anyone who appears to need support is entitled to. The assessment is free, it is not means tested, and it can be requested by the person themselves or by a relative acting on their behalf. A practitioner will look at daily tasks, safety at home and the outcomes the person wants, then set out what support would meet those needs. If funded help looks likely, a financial assessment of income and capital follows separately.

Can Kirklees Metropolitan Council help pay for care at home?

It can, provided the care needs assessment establishes eligible needs and the financial assessment shows that a contribution is due. Support may be commissioned directly on the person's behalf, or paid as a direct payment so that the individual chooses and manages their own agency. Anyone whose capital sits above the national threshold will normally meet the cost themselves, though they remain entitled to an assessment and to advice. It is worth asking about this early, because the financial picture often shapes how much care can realistically be arranged.

How soon should I start looking for home care?

Start as soon as managing at home begins to feel uncertain rather than waiting for a crisis, since good agencies do not always have immediate capacity for the exact hours you want. Allow time for a needs assessment, for meeting two or three agencies and for a care plan to be agreed and settled. Where care is needed quickly, after a hospital discharge for example, tell the agency and the assessment team so that interim arrangements can be considered. Beginning early also leaves room to change agency without pressure if the first arrangement does not suit.
