About Royal Re-ablement Service

We are the reablement team for Royal Greenwich, supporting people at home for a short while after a stay in hospital, an illness, a fall or any other setback that has knocked somebody's confidence or ability. Our work is different from ongoing care, and the difference matters. We are not there to do things for people indefinitely. We are there for a set period to help somebody get back to doing as much as they can for themselves, which might mean building up to managing the stairs again, getting washed and dressed without help, cooking a meal, or simply being able to move around the house without fear. That takes patience and a willingness to stand back and let somebody try, which is harder than stepping in. We support older people, including those living with dementia, as well as younger adults, people with a learning disability or autism, people with a physical disability, people with sight or hearing loss and people managing mental health conditions. We work closely with therapists, community nursing and social work colleagues, and when ongoing support is genuinely needed at the end of a period with us we say so and help arrange it. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. If you or a member of your family would like to know how reablement works, please get in touch and we will explain it honestly, including what it can and cannot achieve.
