Our purpose is straightforward: to make staying at home safe, comfortable and manageable for as long as somebody wishes. Our carers help with personal care, medication, meals, mobility and the ordinary domestic tasks that often become the first real obstacle. For younger adults the balance is usually different, with support built around work, study and a social life, offered in a way that backs somebody up without taking over their decisions. We ask each person what they want help with and, just as importantly, what they would prefer to do themselves. We take reliability seriously. Being late is not a minor matter when somebody is waiting to get up or to take medication, so we plan our rounds carefully and keep people informed. We also try to send familiar carers, because a carer who knows somebody well will spot a change that a stranger would walk past. We do not currently hold an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, and we prefer to say that at the outset rather than leave it to be discovered.
