About First Thought Care Services

First Thought Care Services supports adults in their own homes in Gloucester and the surrounding area. We work mainly with people who have a learning disability, with autistic adults, with people who have mental health needs, and with younger adults who want to live independently with the right support behind them. The point of what we do is the person's own life, not our timetable. Support is planned with them, in a format they understand, and it covers what they are trying to achieve as much as what they need help with. In practice that might be managing a tenancy, cooking, budgeting, getting to college or work, staying on top of health appointments, or having someone steady alongside them in situations they find hard. Where someone has mental health needs, we agree in advance what a bad patch looks like for them and what they want us to do about it, so that decisions are not being improvised at the worst possible moment. Consistent, familiar staff are essential to all of this, so we keep support teams small, introduce new workers properly and do not send people in cold. The Care Quality Commission has not yet issued us with an overall rating. We are registered with them and work to their standards.
